John Akridge Jr. and Staci Akridge, both 29, were taken into custody and the children were turned over to DCF.

Police also found two shotguns in the home at 236 S. 7th St. where deputies served a search warrant about 3:30 pm, shortly after children were released from school. An undercover informant bought drugs there earlier in the day.

Property records show the house is owned by Randy and Joann Powell of Crews Road.

Mr. Akridge, who has a lengthy criminal history, was last arrested on March 3 on three counts of possession of prescription drugs without a prescription and one count of petty theft, according to court records.

Back in January the suspect was also charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of driving on a suspended license.

Mr. Akridge is being held on a $650,000 bond while Ms. Akridge's bond was set at $275,000.
