COA ‘pickin’ parties’ are drawing a full house

More than a year ago the Baker County Council on Aging began hosting periodic blue grass jams at its center in downtown Macclenny.

Since then the gatherings have become more popular and more frequent, and now take place each Tuesday night now, said COA’s Darlene Rockafeller.

She said blue grass musicians come from across the region to play and sing together. There were nearly two dozen musicians about a half-hour into the 7 pm party last Tuesday, February 18.

But more were coming through the door with guitar cases in hand and their eyes searching for an empty seat, which were in short supply. The weekly affair is part concert, part pot-luck, but all fun.
