The BCHS Wildcats improved to 4-1 in District 3-5A play and 6-2 overall with a hard-fought 16-2 road victory against the Yulee Hornets October 18.
Class 5A's top-rated defense slowed down Baker County's offense for much of the night, but several big plays gave the Wildcats all the offense they needed.
Backup quarterback Joe Green, who was in the game for an injured Jacob Carter, gave the Wildcats the lead with an incredible 41-yard touchdown run. A successful two-point conversion put the team up 8-0 with 2:33 remaining in the second quarter.
The Wildcats would add to their lead early in the fourth quarter when Green found Michael Boone in the end zone on a 14-yard touchdown pass. Another two-point conversion gave the team a 16-0 lead.
While the offense found its spots to make big plays, the defense dominated the entire game. The squad forced six turnovers on the night - three of which came from defensive back Jared Crews - and dropped Yulee's quarterback eight times for sacks.
The Wildcats will look to continue to keep their District 3-5A championship aspirations alive when they host Stanton at Memorial Stadium October 25.
