It is family story time in my college-level speech class. To prepare students, I have them get their feet wet by telling a simple family story. The parameters are simple — it had to happen to them or they had to witness it.

The Baker County Development Commission, the area’s economic development body, remains land rich but cash poor. The good news, however, is that eight business proposals have been floated here, totaling $480 million in potential economic investments.
