Separate traffic stops lead to ecstasy pill, pot possession charges

Traffic stops by the same county deputy during the past week led to one felony drug possession count and a criminal complaint for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Deputy Trey McCullough said a partially obscured license tag prompted him to pull over a 1993 GEO on Lowder St. in west Macclenny the afternoon of June 25.

Where have all the ‘heroes’ gone?

I read a very interesting article this week about the Aaron Hernandez story. Hernandez, as you probably know, is the former Gator and New England Patriot tight end accused of murdering a member of his entourage two weeks ago and a person of interest in other shootings.

Jason Whitlock, the often controversial ESPN columnist, made an interesting point tying the Hernandez shootings to a fundamental change in our culture.

Iraq War veteran coaxed out from residence by cops

The sheriff’s department’s Special Response Team surrounded a north Macclenny residence the afternoon of June 24 after its occupant, an Iraqi war veteran, armed himself and threatened suicide while pointing a loaded .45 caliber pistol at relatives who were attempting to calm him.

Sunya Kim Godwin, 75, of Macclenny died on June 26, 2013 at Acosta Rua Center for Caring in Jacksonville. Sunya was born in Seoul, Korea on May 28, 1938, moved to the United States in 1962 and became a resident of Macclenny.
