Fighting case dismissed; Judge affirms ‘stand your ground’

A judge earlier this week dismissed a criminal case against a Macclenny woman on the basis of Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” statute.

Heather McDonald of Macclenny had been charged with disorderly conduct shortly after a fight last December at Winn-Dixie also involving Lisa Meister, 36, of Macclenny.

Donald Earl Wilkison, 86, a former resident of Glen St. Mary, died  peacefully  on Sunday July 21, 2013 at St. Vincent’s Riverside Community Hospice after an extended illness.

Tighter credit card controls in wake of Sulkowski ‘night at Whiteys’

Last week the Baker County School Board instituted new, stricter policies on spending with district-issued credit cards that should curtail unauthorized or poorly documented purchases.

The board’s unanimous vote to approve the new rules on July 15 came about five months after Ryan Sulkowski, the Wildcat’s head football coach, used a district credit card to pay for dinner and alcohol at Whitey’s Fish Camp following a weight lifting meet in Fleming Island.

Had pot, sale-related items

A Macclenny man stopped by a county deputy the morning of July 17 because he was a known traffic offender ended up in jail charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug sale paraphernalia.

Deputy Koty Crews said he stopped an eastbound vehicle on Woodlawn Rd. about 10:30 and was aware that Thomas Akridge Jr., 24, had a revoked license as an habitual offender.
