David Jones, WWII Pacific veteran

David Harold Jones Sr., 92, of Glen St. Mary died on April 5, 2013 at Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital. He was born in Dania, Florida on October 25, 1920 to the late Benjamin Dower Jones and Roselind Lauder Clark Jones. David was a resident of Macclenny  since 1952 when he married his lovely wife Erin.

He joined the US Army prior to World War II and served the entire war in the South Pacific. He retired from the Army after 20 years and then was employed as a salesman at the Glen St. Mary Nursery for 20 years. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Macclenny. David had a passion for growing plants, gardening and landscaping. He was especially talented in growing orchids.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his loving wife Erin Poythress Jones; brother Thomas Jones; sisters Inez Hinson, Gertrude Jones and Ruth Farrar.

He is survived by children David H. Jones Jr. of Macclenny, Stephen Jones of Glen St. Mary, Liesel Jones of Macclenny and Thomas Mitchell (Christina) Jones of Sanderson; grandchildren David (Myrna Berliz) Jones III, Andrea (Randy) Ransom, Stephen Jones Jr., Deborah, Brandon, Christopher, Benjamin, Timothy, Joshua and Joel Jones; great-granddaughters, Sofia and Isabel.

The funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 10 at 11 am at his church with Pastor Tom Pope officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery. V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services of Macclenny was in charge of arrangements.
