Updated: Pedestrian killed on Lowder Street

Flowers at the accident scene.A Baldwin man was killed after walking into the path of car heading north on Lowder Street Saturday evening.

Susan B. Green of Macclenny was driving the 2007 Chevy Malibu on CR23A (Lowder) near Big Oaks Court about 8:35 pm when the car struck Allen Lee Moore, 43.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Baker County Medical Services.

Ms. Green, 49, was not injured and will not be charged. FHP is investigating whether the victim’s actions were alcohol related.

The Malibu had an estimated $3500 in damage.

Mr. Moore may have been on the way to his father’s residence on Miltondale Road off North Lowder Street, according to the sheriff’s office. He was carrying a beer at the time of the collision, officials said.

Mr. Moore was released from county jail on the previous day. He spent about two weeks there on a misdemeanor charge of petty theft for allegedly stealing beer from the MyFuel gas station at US 90 and 6th Street, formerly known as Murphy’s Oil.

A resident nearby the accident scene, who asked not to be identified, placed a memorial flower bouquet on the road shoulder Monday, April 8.

He said the victim’s family visited the site the same day. He said they were upset that the driver would not be charged, but that witnesses told police Mr. Moore was carrying a quart of beer and stumbled into traffic.
