Merdes Paige, 73, school bus driver

Merdes R. Paige, 73, of Sanderson died on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Ora and Leona Ruise Sr., born October 23, 1939. She attended Richardson High School in Lake City and married Claude Paige Jr. on August 20, 1965. She drove for the Baker County schools for 21 years before retiring.

Mrs. Paige is survived by her husband; children Blonzella Ruise (Phillip) of Sanderson, Dwayne Paige (Glenda) of Lake City, Glen Ruise, Roosevelt Paige (Greta) of Sanderson, Anis Davis (Keith), Melves Alston (Derek), Ora Lee Paige (Laurette), all of Jacksonville, Claudell Paige Sr. of Sanderson and Tiffney Blakely (Marada) of Tallahassee; step-children Wayne G. Mason of Miami and Lisa Jones of Jacksonville; mother-in-law Helen Jefferson of Sanderson; sisters Nadine Norris of Denver, Co., Marie McCray (Lucrous) of Lake City, Alfred Givens (Coatsie); brothers Elder Joe Ruise (Lakesha), Ora Ruise Jr. (Pansy), Alfonso Ruise, Ronnie Ruise, all of Margaretta, Leo Ruise (Vanessa) of Lake Butler; sisters-in-law Jewell Ishmael, Minnie Hobbs, Celestine Fleming, all of Sanderson, Lovann Peterson of Macclenny;  brothers-in-law Julius Jefferson (Mary), Clarence Jefferson (Faye), both of Lake City, Tyrone Jefferson of Jacksonville; special friend Linda Ruise of Sanderson; 25 randchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral service for Mrs. Paige was held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 13 at the Christian Fellowship Temple in Macclenny with Pastor David Thomas and Elder Jonathan Ruise officiating. Interment followed at Quitman Cemetery in Sanderson. Cooper Funeral Home of Lake City was in charge of arrangements.
