Clara Elouise Davis, 75, of Glen St. Mary died on Friday March 1, 2013 at her residence with family by her side. She was born in Moniac, Georgia on October 3, 1937 to the late Allen Rhoden and Clara Reynolds Rhoden. Elouise was raised in Baker County and graduated from Baker County High School in 1955. She married her husband of 56 years on February 9, 1957. She graduated from Licensed Vocational Nursing School in Orange, TX in 1968 and from Union University in Jackson, TN with an associate degree in nursing in 1973.
Mrs. Davis was an outstanding and dedicated registered nurse who advanced to the position of head nurse of the coronary care unit at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, VA in 1970’s. She was also head nurse of the cardiac surgery unit at St. Luke’s Hospital in Jacksonville in the late 1970’s to early 1980’s. Elouise retired from her formal nursing career in 1999 from the post-anesthesia care unit at Lynchburg General Hospital.
She cared for thousands of patients in her thirty-plus years of nursing. She loved taking care of others, and also enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and spending time with her family. Her parents and her sister Kathryn Hilliard preceded her in death.
She survived by her loving husband, Charles D. Davis of Glen St. Mary; children Tamie Rae Davis of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Terri (John) Davis-Fatcheric of Camillus, NY and Charles “Chuck” (Kelly) Davis of Scituate, MA; sisters Aline Keene, Peggy (Lamell) Harvey and Patricia (Don) Harris, all of Glen St. Mary, and Bobby Sue (Mitchell) Sapp of Gainesville; grandaughter Rindy Bohannon, and grandson Eric (Leanne) Bohannon; great-granddaughter Maria Rose Bohannon; numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 5 at 2 pm in the chapel of V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services in Macclenny. The family requests donations in Elouise’s memory to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd. Gainesville, FL 32606 and/or to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.
