Weir Stewart Barton Sr., 64, of Sanderson died on December 22, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville. He was born in Glen St. Mary on November 1, 1948 to the late Martin Barton Jr. and Mary Griffith Barton, and was a lifelong resident of Baker County. He was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for forty years. He served in the United States Marine Corps and retired as a corrections officer from Florida State Prison after 30 years of employment and more recently was employed by Northeast Florida State Hospital as a security officer for over four years.Mr. Barton enjoyed hunting and was deeply committed to the bus ministry at his church. He was preceded in death by his sister Schere Barton.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Lee Barton of Sanderson; children Weir Stewart (Barbara) Barton Jr. of Glen St. Mary, Tiffany (Chris) Blizzard and Rhoda (Justin) Treadwell of Macclenny; brothers Isaac (Diane) Holt of Pavo, GA, Martin (Rochelle) Barton III of Colorado Springs, CO, George (Linda) Barton of Sanderson and Clyde (Joann) Barton of Colorado Springs; sisters Regina (Lonnie) Bryant of Taylor and Seleeba (Jimmy) Morris of Jacksonville; grandchildren Natalee Barton and Jax Blizzard.
The funeral service for Mr. Baton will be held on Friday, December 28 at 11 am at his church with Pastor Torran Dismuke officiating. Interment will follow at Macedonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday December 27 from 6-8 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church building fund. V.
