Cats jump out to 3-0 behind Ruise shooting

Johnathan Lamb goes up for a shot.The BCHS Wildcat basketball team got a pair of high-scoring wins this week over Newberry and Baldwin. The Cats remain undefeated in the early season with a 3-0 record.

Charles Ruise Jr. lit up the basket for 34 points as BCHS defeated Newberry 60-43 at home on November 27. After scoring 10 points in the first half, Ruise exploded for 24 in the second half as the Wildcats blew open the game.

Early on, the long ball was giving BCHS the most joy. Ruise, Jesse Gardner, Kaylyn Holmes and Cameron Mack all nailed three point shots as BCHS outscored Newberry 21-10.

Newberry couldn’t manage to dig out of the first quarter hole and BCHS led by 31-20 at the halftime break. They extended the lead in the third period as Ruise heated up to a 47-30 edge and cruised to the end.

Ruise led all scorers. Johnny Lamb had 10 points on the inside and Gardner had 7 to lead BCHS.

Both teams were burning up the floor on Thursday night, November 29, as BCHS beat Baldwin 79-73 in an exciting home game November 29. Ruise had 25 points and Brandon Lewis, Gardner and Mack were in double figures for BCHS in a game that flipped back and forth on the scoreboard.
