Ida Mallory, 87, was retired nurse

Ida Allene Mallory, 87, of Starke died on August 20, 2012 at Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City after a short stay. She was born in Raceland, Kentucky on December 13, 1924 to the late Troy Grizzell and Ida Bell Phillips-Grizzell. She graduated from South Charleston High School in South Charleston, West Virginia in 1942 and married Garland Mallory on January 5, 1943. She spent most of her life in West Virginia before moving to Starke with Garland in 1973. Garland died on January 5, 1992,  their 49th wedding anniversary.

Allene graduated from Marshall University with a degree in nursing and was a nurse in Ohio, West Virginia, and Florida before retiring as a registered nurse supervisor in 1991. During World War II, she built airplanes in Akron, OH, and later worked at a glass bottle plant before going to nursing school. Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by daughter Cynthia Gayle Johnson, grandson Cory Frounfelter, great-granddaughter Christina Frounfelter, sister Betty Curry; and brothers Ray and Troy Grizzell Jr.

Mrs. Mallory is survived by   sons Troy Garland (Dianna) Mallory, Harold “Fred” (Sharon) Mallory of Macclenny and Mickey Mallory; 13 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 25,  at 2 pm at Archie Tanner Funeral Services in Starke. Interment will follow at Crosby Lake Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, August 24 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
