Edward Hickox, retired minister

Edward Matthew Hickox, 85, of Jacksonville died July 5, 2012 at the McGraw Center for Caring, Jacksonville. He was born November 17, 1926 to Sally Harris and Ivan Taylor Hickox Sr. in Homeland, Georgia. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

Mr. Hickox was an ordained minister and the pastor of several churches in Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida during the years of his ministry. He was retired from Rayonier Forest Division and was a life member of VFW Post 9560, Folkston, Georgia. He was a current member of Kernan Boulevard Baptist Church in Jacksonville and an avid NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Helen Hart Hickox; daughters Linda (Adrian) Hodges; Gail (Ron) Fowler, Michele (James) Robertson; sons Colan Hickox, Jeffrey (Lindi) Gullatt; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives; special friends Nicholas DeNisco and his family.

Rev. Fowler was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, six brothers, daughters Bonnie Crews and Vonnie Hickox; wife Nellie Green Hickox.

The funeral service was held on July 10 at St. George (GA) First Baptist Church at 11 am with Revs. James Conner and  Ray McKendree officiating. Burial followed at Conner-Green Cemetery in Hilliard.

Donations may be made in memory of Mr. Hickox to Northeast Florida Community Hospice at 4715 Worral Way, Jacksonville, Florida 32224. Arrangements are under the direction of Shepard Funeral Home, Folkston.
