Robert Franklin McGarrity, 78, of Macclenny died Friday, May 4, 2012 at Macclenny Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was a native of Woodleaf, North Carolina and a son to the late Perry and Gladys Klutz McGarrity. He was a four-year veteran of the United States Navy and a graduate of Jones Business College in Jacksonville with a business degree. Mr. McGarrity retired in 1989 from the United States Post Office bulk mail center in Jacksonville after 25 years. He lived in Macclenny for the past 36 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Macclenny. In his spare time he enjoyed riding his bicycle, working in his yard and gardening.
Survivors include wife of 57 years Betty J. McGarrity of Macclenny; daughters Joan (Don) Young of Jacksonville, Shirley (Gerry) Doyle and Toni (Ward) Bunch, both of Macclenny; brother George (Frances) McGarrity of Salisbury, NC; grandchildren Robby Colston of Glen St. Mary, Sean Kelly and Kenny Colston, both of Atlantic Beach, Madison Bunch and Gabrielle Bunch, both of Macclenny; and great-granddaughter Kira Colston.
The funeral service was held Monday, May 7 at 2 pm in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Dr. Edsel Bone, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Macclenny, officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery.
