James Smith, 48, of Macclenny

James Lee “Jamie” Smith, 48, of Macclenny died Thursday, April 12, at St. Vincents Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Lakeland and lived in Auburndale, FL before moving to Macclenny in 1970. He was a salesman with Badcock Home Furnishing Center for many years until 2001.

He then worked with Hagan Ace Hardware and was a rental property manager until his death. He was a member of the Macclenny Church of Christ, a devoted stay-at-home father and enjoyed guitar and other music. He was preceded in death by his father James C. “Smitty” Smith and mother-in-law Dotsy McPherson.

Survivors include wife Anita McPherson Smith of Macclenny: son James McPherson “James Mac” Smith of Macclenny: mother Jo Anne (Michael) Minerva of Macclenny: father-in-law L.H. “Scott” McPherson of Macclenny.

The funeral service was conducted at 5 pm Tuesday, April 17 in the chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with eulogies by family and friends. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery, Macclenny. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Music Department at Baker County High School, 1 Wildcat Drive, Glen St. Mary, FL 32040
