Edward Murphy of Glen St. Mary

Edward “Ed” D. Murphy, 92, of Glen St. Mary died March 18, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Lake City. He was born in Lyons, GA to the late Charley Murphy and Viana Abbott Murphy on December 18, 1919. He honorably served in the US Army during World War II and in later years was an automotive mechanic.

Mr. Murphy was a resident of Baker County since 1981 when he moved from Jacksonville. He was a single father. His children were first in his life and world. He enjoyed woodworking, yard work, gardening and activities where he could use his hands. He was predeceased by his son Donald Edward Murphy.

Survivors include children Anne (John) Bowman of Glen St. Mary and Randy (Candy) Murphy of Jacksonville; grandchildren Robert Taylor, Tammie Smith, Tiffinnie Taylor, Pete, Chris Murphy and Mark Murphy; great-grandchildren Elle and Kellen Taylor, Aiden and Peyton Murphy, Aaron, Scott and Bryan Smith.

The funeral service with military honors was held on Wednesday, March 21 at 11 am at First Baptist Church of Glen St. Mary with Pastor Randy Williams officiating. Interment followed in Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Jacksonville. V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
