Eddie Canady Jr., 85, of Macclenny

Eddie B. “E.B.” Canady Jr., 85, of Macclenny died Wednesday, January 18, 2012. He was a native of Jacksonville and  retired to Macclenny in 1997. He worked for the US Postal Service and was a deputy under three different sheriff’s of Duval County. He retired as a real estate investor and was owner of Ace-Dixie Amusement Company in Jacksonville.

Mr. Canady was a Baptist, a member of the Baker County Historical Society, a Navy Veteran of WWII and a life member of VFW Post #1689, Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his parents Eddie B. and Lila Bennett Canady Sr. and sisters Edith Maddox and Ethel Helsabeck.

Survivors include wife of 64 years Alma Garrett Canady of Macclenny, daughters Elaine (Bill) Haines of McDonough, GA and Linda Canady of Jacksonville; step-sons Gerald Altman of Macclenny and Marvin (Angela) Altman of Orange Park: niece Shelia Cravey; and nephews Richard Helasbeck and Ken Helasbeck. Four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.

The funeral service was held at 11 am Saturday, January 21 in the chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with eulogies spoken by his close friends. Interment followed at Macedonia Cemetery. Please make donations to Heritage Park, Macclenny, or Community Hospice, Jacksonville, Fla.
