Margaret Helms, 81, of Macclenny

Margaret Jean Thomas Voorhees Helms, 81, of Macclenny died at her home on July 12, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 20, 1930 in Clearwater to Raymond Alison Thomas and Martha Holmes Dykes Thomas. She was a fun-loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved being involved with all family activities and lived for her family.

Her life’s work was devoted to the education of children. In 1960, she and Willa Jean Walker opened the first public kindergarten in Macclenny, Busy Beaver Kindergarten. Then she worked with the Baker County School System from 1968 until her retirement in 1988.

Idella Lee, 59, of Macclenny dies

Idella Mae Lee, 59, of Macclenny died July 8, 2011 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville. Mrs. Lee was born in Macclenny and resided there all of her life.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 43 years, Alto Jerome Lee; children Dorothy Church (Ambi), Gerzell Barringer and Schella Lee, all of Macclenny; Wanda Robertson, of Clarksville, TN, Favian Alto Lee, Favian Jeremy Lee, Dale Jerome Lee, Wilbur Lee Johnson and Rushad Lee, all of Macclenny; 25 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Mary Louise (Tommy) Burton of Lake City and Nellie Mae Johnson of Macclenny; a number of other loving relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Mrs. Lee was held at 11:00 am on July 16 at Emmanuel Church of God in Christ in Macclenny with Elder Joe Nathan Ruise officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Herman Cemetery in Macclenny. Harry Brown Funeral Directors and Cremation Service of Macclenny was in charge of arrangements.

‘Randy’ Johnson, an avid sportsman

Doyle “Randy” Randall Johnson, 57, of Macclenny died July 13, 2011. Randy was born in Jacksonville to Betty Louise Riley Johnson and the late Doyle Alderman Johnson on November 12, 1953. He was a resident of Baker County for the last three years after moving from Whitehouse.

Mr. Johnson was a 1971 grad­­uate of Paxon Senior High School, worked as a supervisor for Atlantic Builders, a volunteer for the Nielson Transplant Foundation, and was vice-president of the Baldwin High School Booster Club. He coached in the Police Athletic League, winning a national championship in 1977 and hosted the show North Florida Sportsman with Randy Johnson. He loved hunting, fishing and was an avid Gator fan.

Survivors include  his mother Betty Louise Riley Johnson of Jacksonville; loving wife of 27 years, Sandra Dee Johnson of Macclenny; children Kasey Elizabeth Johnson of Macclenny and Devin Benton of Dallas, TX; brothers Richard A. (Debbie) Johnson of Jacksonville and Ronald J. (Nina) Johnson of Whitehouse; one niece; and granddaughter Kinsley Duval.

The funeral service was held July 16 at 11:00 am at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services Chapel in Macclenny with Pastor Richard Fish officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Macclenny.

Sean Connell, 11,  an accident victim

Sean Douglas Connell, 11, of Macclenny died after a tragic accident on July 11, 2011. Sean was born in Jacksonville to James Connell and Angel Price Connell on May 1, 2000. He was a Baker County resident for two years after moving from Jacksonville and a member of First Assembly of God in Macclenny. Sean loved skateboarding, video games, talking, watching TV and fishing. He was predeceased by grandfather Robert “Bob” Price; great-grandfather Ed DeVevo; cousin Trudy Taylor Sarman.

Survivors include his parents of Macclenny; maternal grandparents John and Vivian Smith; paternal grandparents Bob and Donna Connell; great-grandmother Frances DeVevo; brother James Derrick Connell Jr.; sisters Christian Nichole Connell, Breanna Danielle Finton and Jaylee O’Neal; four aunts; three uncles.

The funeral service was held July 16 at 2:00 pm at his church with Pastor Joshua Potts officiating. Interment followed at Macedonia Cemetery in Macclenny. V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.f
